I first
visited Sicily in 2001 and have been wanting to return ever since. In September
I made the return journey in my trusty Morgan 4/4. I strapped my easel onto
the back and drove from Mousehole in Cornwall to Sicily, Southern Italy. I
covered about 3,500 miles using a mixture of road, railways and ferries. I
drove down the west coast of this beautiful country - as if driving into a
golden light.
I returned with a head full of images, an inspired soul, and a tired little
car. Bundled into a shoebox, were the treasures of my trip, a collection of
small works and notebooks. These are my remnants, fragments and memories of
my journey, a way of still being there - a transitory bliss towards the light
and heat of the South.
